Girls Volleyball

Girls junior varsity volleyball won their last home game against Tri County yesterday.

Yesterday was also Senior Night, the last night for the Varsity senior girls on volleyball. The senior girls are: Shantel DaSilva, Nicole Rebelo, Julia Stachura, and team manager, Mallie O’Brien. It was a great and exciting game, and it ended with the Connolly girls winning once again.

Girls Soccer

The girls’ varsity soccer team rebounded from a 1-0 loss vs. Diman last Saturday to tie Sacred Heart yesterday afternoon. This is the first time that the Lady Cougars have tied Sacred Heart after being defeated each time in the previous four years.

With this tie the Cougars’ record is now 10-4-2 on the season. The Lady Cougars will play Nantucket on Thursday and finish off the regular season vs. Chatham on November 2nd at Cougar Stadium.

Spirit Week Summary

Spirit week has come and gone and this was the most successful one in a while. The seniors ended up winning the “Spirit Bowl” while the defending champions, the juniors were the runners up.

This year the seniors were motivated to win the “Spirit Bowl” after a disappointing last place finish a year ago. With a reason to win, the seniors came out, dressed up in all different kinds of clothes, and defeated the competition.

The seniors’ overall score was 430 points from the week, while the second place juniors had 350.

This was a good week for the school, we all saw the unique, odd, and sometimes weird outfits, but that’s what spirit week is all about. The seniors are going to leave in 2010 with the title, “Spirit Bowl Champions”.

Small enough to know you, large enough to serve you.

This year’s Open House, held on Sunday, 10/18,  received one of the best turnouts in recent history. The school opened its doors to 250 people representing over 100 families of prospective students, compared to last year’s already impressive turnout of about 80 families. Positive feedback has come in from all angles – praise of students, faculty, tours, and the size and amenities of the school. Many visitors signed up for the Spend-A-Day program at BCHS and will be shadowing current students in the weeks to come. This Open House gives us high hopes for a large class of 2014.

Junior Ring Mass

The junior retreat and ring mass is coming up this Friday. This is a day dedicated to the juniors. They have a retreat with a series of events, leading up to a ring mass where they will receive their junior class rings.

This year’s retreat is based on the light of the Lord. The seniors are responsible for planning these events. Last year, they had to go outside in the woods and grab a stick that represented themselves. They then tied those sticks all together to represent that they are all one community. In the end, the day was successful and this year the seniors hope to recreate their experience for this year’s juniors.

During the mass the juniors will be called up to receive their class ring. Some students have special-ordered rings from Herff-Jones, and those who did not purchase rings for themselves will receive a special rosary ring from the school.

Pep Rally: “Best in Years”

The first Pep Rally of the year took place on “Connolly Day” and it was one of the best ones in a while, according to couple of teachers. Corey Chace, Ryan Rodrigues, Ryan Cunningham, Kyle DaSilva, & Jess Valton had task of making this a great Pep Rally.

In addition to announcing all of the fall sports teams, the event included four games: an obstacle course, face & cream (the male put cool whip on his face, while the female threw gummy bears and goldfish and tried to make them stick), the Oreo game (male and female lick off an Oreo with frosting off glass), and blindfolded musical chairs, played by seven lucky faculty members.

The day was not without its drama or humor: One funny moment from the obstacle course is when one student was riding a tricycle and fell head over heels. Dedicated to his team, he got right back up after the fall, and finished his part of the course, which was important in setting the time to beat.

The seniors won the obstacle course, proudly represented by Steven Periera and Courtney Camara, as well as the face & cream  race represented by Dylan Hilman and Alishya Anselmo. The juniors won the Oreo game (represented by Mr. Connolly himself, Ryan Frost, and Mackenzie Souza). Mr. Silva won the faculty musical chairs with his “ask the audience” strategy.

The seniors ended up wining the 2009-2010 Spirit Bowl.

Homecoming Football

On Homecoming weekend the Connolly Varsity football team dominated Trinity Catholic, winning 42-6. The Cougars jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Marcus Delgado contributed three rushing touchdowns for the Cougars while Junior Zac Medeiros also scored a rushing touchdown. Due to the fact that the Cougars established an early lead, Connolly coaches were able to play Junior Varsity players such as Japheth Omonira, allowing them to gain valuable varsity experience.

Mr Connolly 2009…

DSC_0513Congratulations to the new Mr. Connolly, junior Ryan Frost!

A fine group of 8 young men battled for the honor of being crowned this year’s “Mr. Connolly”. Second place went to sophomore Christian Tavares, and third place went to senior Kole Bolarinho.

Volleyball Update

The Girls Varsity Volleyball team has been doing an outstanding job. In fact, during this past week they have won two of their games, but lost one. Yesterday they had a game against the saints, the number one team in the league and were expecting to lose. Unfortunately they did, but they put up a good try. The final score of the game yesterday was 3 – 0.
